The Impact Of Defense Information Systems

Information Technology is a key factor in an era that includes Edward Snowden and Chelsea Manning. Following an extensive investigation, it was discovered that these individuals had a significant impact on the defense information system. Edward Snowden, a contractor hired by the United States Government in 2013, was a contractor. Snowden gained access to classified information in the millions. Snowden began leaking stolen information in the United States and Britain to journalists within the following year.

Snowden believed the United States had done something wrong. He thought it was right that this information was made public. However, the government saw him as a traitor and whistle-blower. Snowden only showed how simple it was to hack a system, collect information, and leave no digital footprint, which could be traced to a particular individual. Snowden exposed corruption in the American government as well other countries by leaking information. WikiLeaks made public the information Snowden gave them.

WikiLeaks hit the headlines once again a few years later. This time, Chelsea Manning was formally known by Pvt. Private First Class Bradley Manning. Manning leaked in 2010 documents from Pentagon and War Logs relating to the Afghanistan War. WikiLeaks distributed all the data that Manning had given them. The world was in a state of disbelief at what Manning did.

In 2010, United Stated sought to extradite WikiLeaks Chief in Editor and Founder Julian Assange. Manning approached his superiors to ask for permission to leave, but his request was denied and he had to return to his work. Manning passed on all information and intentions to Adrian Lamo, an ex-hacker who notified officials. Manning, who was also a whistle-blower, was court martialed. Manning’s sentence was 37 years behind bars.

Snowden, Manning, and WikiLeaks have all one thing in Common and that is the Defense System. The data is stored for decades and the leakage of this information would have been a big deal. This shows just how vulnerable the system was. Cyberspace is now more policed.
